Mighty Oak
Pioneertown, California
This small one-bedroom studio serves as a guest house to an existing historic homestead residence. The studio is positioned on a gently sloping site, following a ridgeline of large boulders, Juniper trees, and scrub oak. The house is partially sunk into the ground, and oriented along the ridgeline to frame a private outdoor ‘courtyard’. Every room in the house has a view of the ridgeline, and access to ideal southern sunlight. The owner required the house to have as little site impact as possible. This included the protection of multiple ‘Mighty’ oaks on the property.
