Chino Canyon

Palm Springs, California

This 2,390 SF house was designed for a one-third acre infill lot in the Chino Canyon neighborhood of Palm Springs. The site offers eastern views over the Coachella Valley, and southeastern views toward Santa Rosa mountain. The compact floor plan includes four bedrooms and three full bathrooms in a split-level design that works with the site's steeply sloping topography. Two existing mature palo verde trees are preserved in the rear yard. These trees became an integral part of the native landscape design. Exposed board-formed concrete walls and planters serve to anchor the building to the site while enhancing the organic meets modern aesthetic. Cost effective decisions were made along the way to arrive at a design that will become home for a growing family.
