Pioneertown, California

Located on a rocky hillside in a remote area of Pioneertown; this home has access to distant views toward the east, and intimate landscape features to the west. The clients were seeking a modest home that provides an atmosphere for entertaining guests, while also providing quiet spaces for connection and creativity. A concept was discussed to accommodate a large collection of books that can be presented as part of the architecture.

The resulting 1,800sf split-level floor plan is woven into the existing landscape of large boulders and piñon trees. A full length book wall bisects the home and helps to unify and organize the individual interior spaces. A kitchen/dining wing extends directly through the existing trees and boulders, providing immediate interactions with the surrounding landscape.
