Bay-Build

Sierra Leone

Kailahun, Sierra Leone

A prefabricated framing system designed to provide infrastructure for a variety of remote building applications. The pilot project provided support for the construction of a rehabilitation center in Sierra Leone. The frame was designed to fit in a standard 20 foot shipping container for delivery to the building site. Upon arrival, the shipping container becomes a lateral-load resisting element of the structural system. With the shipping containers acting as secure storage, the rest of the project could be completed by unskilled laborers applying local materials to the finished frame. The finished project would be a marriage between local resources, and global innovation.
